The Upward Spiral Community Center
Our mission is to buy or build a community center in Government Camp.
Why does Govy need a community center?
Currently, Government Camp has zero free indoor spaces for the community to gather, other than local bars in town. Alcoholism is a major contributor to the rate of suicide in mountain towns, and we have experienced this firsthand with the loss of many of our friends. Locals on the journey to sobriety face isolation when they choose not to go to the bars. The Upward Spiral Collective recognizes this as a major barrier to sobriety and quality of life on the mountain. With most of the local mountain employees residing in employee housing that packs people into very small living spaces, the option of hosting more than a couple friends at a time becomes a barrier to community growth and support. A community center where folks can gather, hold meetings, host mental health professionals and events, and have a permanent Art Lab would provide the residents of Government Camp with the mental health relief they need to heal from the daily challenges that are specific to life in an isolated mountain resort town.
